It moved slightly under the force of the woman's body, but was still firmly closed. Muttering under her breath, she moved to the side of the small building, and knocked one of the planks placed over the windows in. The wood rattled as it hit the floor, and Avery slipped through the window frame, pulling her bag behind her, and looked around. Aside from some old crates and battered, dusty furniture, the place was deserted. And it was perfect for what she needed.
Tossing her bag to the floor, Avery looked through the cupboards mounted on the walls, but found nothing, save a whole lot of cobwebs and a fair bit of mould in places. She wasn't complaning, the fact that it had a roof was enough for her. As used to spending nights in the pouring rain she may have been, she definitely missed the comfort of a roof.
Sneezing as the dust tickled her nose, she sat down, grabbing her worn-out bag and rooting through it for her torch, something she'd picked up around the 1970s once, which provided light after being wound up at the base. The light it gave was dim and tended to flicker, but that wasn't a problem. Placing it on an empty crate, she went back to her bag, eventually pulling out the food she'd managed to swag earlier when an elderly shopkeeper had turned their eye away from her; half a loaf of bread and a bar of chocolate.
Her hand reached to her pocket, carefully feeling for the switchblade she kept on her. Another stolen object, but she'd had it so long she couldn't remember where it came from. She had a habit of making sure that it was there, too used to having to pull it out at any given moment in self defense. The time she had landed in this time, however, was safe, no creatures running wild. The newspapers she'd seen stated the year to be 2011, the furthest forward she'd ever reached. Everything was strange in this time. She'd learned in her brief stay in the seventies that the allies had won the war, but now it seemed like there was another, out in the east. The woman found it hard to care too much about the war she knew little of, still finding herself glad that her father's war had eventually been won.
Hearing a noise outside, Avery's trail of thought was halted as she leapt to her torch and flicked it off, plunging the room into almost darkness, save for the faint light coming from the window she'd used to get inside and forgotten to cover again. Creeping around so that she was firmly in the shadows, she waited in silence, her hand on the knife in her pocket. | [atrb=background, i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee196/naetoru/averypostbg1.png][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true] | [atrb=background, i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee196/naetoru/averypostbg1.png]THIS IS A POST FOR ARC MEMBERS, STANDING AT 489 WORDS! After all, it was unusual for people to carrying that kind of weaponry. Her curiousity got the better of her, and she slipped out of the window once the others had passed, climbing onto the roof of the cabin and then leaping at a tree branch, grabbing on and pulling herself up. Clambering up a little further so that she was better hidden, the woman began to follow the group from above, leaping from branch to branch. After so long in the distant past, she barely had to think about it anymore, it had become natural to her.
Stopping above them, her eyes widened. Another gateway. If she jumped, she could just about make it, she reasoned. And then she'd be back, or forward, in time again. She hadn't planned on staying in 2011 for long; everywhere had become so crowded and alien to her that she was starting to prefer her odds back in the Jurassic. Crouching low, she listened carefully and watched the group of people, who had positioned themselves around the light. Her instant assumption was that they too were jumpers, but when none of them moved toward the portal she began to wonder exactly what they were planning.
She didn't have to wait long. The people below were using some kind of device, aimed at the gateway. It shrank, closing itself into a tight sphere, and Avery's eyes widened. A woman with short, choppy hair uttered the words 'two hundred B.C.' as she looked at the orb of light infront of them all.
'No... That... They can't be.' Avery frowned, tightening her grip on the branch she rested on. They'd already closed the gate, and now they knew where it led as well, it seemed. However they had done it, Avery had to admit that she was fairly impressed, but even more curious. It was apparent that they knew what they were dealing with, which meant that they had something Avery could have use for. All the time she'd spent moving through them, she knew very little about exactly how it worked or why they even occurred in the first place. She just knew that they were there, and that she was willing to take the risk and use them. | [atrb=background, i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee196/naetoru/averypostbg1.png][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true] | [atrb=background, i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee196/naetoru/averypostbg1.png]THIS IS A POST FOR ABBY, STANDING AT 392 WORDS! She was never going to get there in time, with the woman on the ground having a much easier route to take. Her hope that the woman was only walking back the way she and her friends had come was short-lived, watching her enter the cabin and dissappear from sight. "Shit."
Jumping down onto the roof again, Avery slipped back through the window with relative ease, landing to face the woman who was now looking through her bag. "What are you doing?" she asked, keeping her voice quiet and monotone, as she stared at the intruder. Avery debated with herself the prospect of taking out her knife, but this woman didn't exactly look dangerous. Just sticking her nose in places she shouldn't be.
Swiftly, Avery grabbed her bag and pulled it away, letting it rest on the floor beside her feet. "You know about the gates." she blurted out after a moment, unable to contain herself. Once the words were out she regretted them, but couldn't afford to care. If this woman had information about the gateways, Avery wanted it; and it was pretty clear that the person in front of her had known what she was doing out there. This was the sort of thing Avery could put to use. | [atrb=background, i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee196/naetoru/averypostbg1.png][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true] | [atrb=background, i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee196/naetoru/averypostbg1.png]THIS IS A POST FOR ABBYBUM, STANDING AT 244 WORDS! I turned at the sound of a voice, though it was low and hissy. Turning to face the person who talked, I came face to face with a girl. She had brownish/blonde longish hair and had deep brown eyes. She was slim and looked nothing from 2011. Who was this girl.
Before I could get a word out of my mouth the girl grabbed the bag and gaved it a huge pull, making me let go of it. "I'm sorry-" I began but was cut off as she blurted out, 'You know about the gates.'
I stared at her for a second, what gates? Then it hit me. She had seen the anomaly. I had no idea what to say. Was it one of those cases when the girl was the public and wanted to know what the bright like was or was it one, where the girl has gone through the anomaly, and knows what it is?
"The gates?" I asked, eyeing her with my blue eyes. "You mean the anomalies, right?" I ran my hand through my hair at this point. Tricky... And by the look of it I couldn't call for help.

Sensing that she was safe enough, she relaxed a little and folded her arms across her chest, nodding. "Anomalies." she repeated, as if confirming it for herself. It was a new name for them to her, but they were obviously talking about the same thing here. This new name fitted well, though. An irregularity was most certainly what these things were.
She hadn't run out of questions yet. "What do you know about them?" the woman asked, narrowing her eyes. "You did something to it," Avery said accuisingly, "back there." It was a statement, not a question, but she still tapped her foot as she waited for a response.
The hostility was not completely intentional, she herself knew, but she couldn't help be wary. This was the first time she'd come across anyone else who knew what the gateways were, let alone change them. Their origins were unknown and for all Avery knew, this woman and her friends were to blame, as unlikely as it may have seemed. The entire notion of the anomalies was an unlikely one, and she had come to accept it with relative ease.
Any information this choppy-haired woman had was valuable, though; and Avery accepted that if she wanted any answers, her usual action of running off was not going to help her cause. | [atrb=background, i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee196/naetoru/averypostbg1.png][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true] | [atrb=background, i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee196/naetoru/averypostbg1.png]THIS IS A POST FOR ABBY, STANDING AT 233 WORDS! The gilr repeated the word 'Anomalies', making it clear to me, the 'gate ways' she was on about were the Anomalies. I still didn't want to go into great detail about the Anomalies, I had no idea who this girl was. Yet I wanted to know more of her, and I think thats mosty why I didn't scream for Becker to get his huge arse in here. But then again, it could be beacause Becker was busy fussing over the Anomaly.
The girl said in a very accuisingly way, 'You did something to it. Back there.' Oh, damn. She had seem us all fussing over the Anomaly, locking it and testing the time year. Fab. There was no way of getting out of this now. I had to explain to her, though it wasn't going to be easy how we locked it. I left all that stuff to Connor.
Before I said anything I took in her image on last time. She looked a bit like Emily did when she came through the Anomaly. Could it be this girl was from another time?
"Look, I'm not going to tell you much unless you tell me who you are and when you are from. And I would to like this now or we're not going to get anywhere." I said, finding this girl a little weird. But who could blame her? She had just seen me lock up a Anomaly AND date the time of it.

"I asked first." she said, as if the two were having nothing more than a petty argument on the schoolyard. Perhaps she was using the wrong strategy here, she thought. It was doubtful that the woman was going to spill everything she knew so easily, and a more tactful approach was probably Avery's best chance of getting anywhere.
She sighed a little, blowing a stray strand of hair from her face. "Avery." was the only answer she cared to give, kicking her foot slightly. Until she had her own answers, this woman was getting nothing from her. Who did she think she was, anyway? Avery certainly wasn't taking orders from her, of tht she was certain.
The woman glanced to the window. She could make a break for it, run off into the woods and up a tree until she'd lost them; avoid this entire situation. But doing that meant she would lose the first chance she'd had to find out exactly what was happening, and what these anomalies really were. That, of course, was assuming that this canary standing infront of her would sing.
"What do you know about the anomalies?" she asked again, her voice firmer this time. The switchblade was still sat in her pocket, and she wondered if a direct threat would be any more effective than trying to talk.

BENJASONSPARKES
[/center] Ben Sparkes accessed the floating phenomena that stood before him, now enraptured in a spherical ball after Abby had locked the anomaly, and confirmed the time period as 200 B.C. Standard, Ben thought, before acknowledging Abby’s disappearance, and craning his neck in all directions to see where she had gone. Ben smirked, she was probaly reminiscing the events of the Christine Johnson taking over the ARC, where they had to take hostage in the abandoned war cabin, while a vicious flock of Titanis haunted their cabin. Ben would know, Abby didn't stop talking about it as soon as the detector went off.
She still hadn't returned, and to be frank, with no creature incursions recordings, and Becker busy doing his own thing, filling in charts, writing reports concerning the anomaly, Ben was pretty bored. He puffed his cheeks out and ran a sweaty hand through his hair, before approaching the cabin.
It looked like the house out of Friday the Thirteenth, and Ben defiantly wouldn't want to stay there for a night. He strolled casually up to the door, taking note of signs of the aftermath of the carnage Abby, Connor, Danny and Sarah had found themselves in a year ago. He creaked the door open, and walked in to see a startled Abby, chatting cautiously to a young, violent- looking girl.
Ben gaped. He didn't recognise anything about this girl, including the clothing.
"Err.. Abby? Who the hell is she?" |

This 'ARC' sounded like exactly what she'd been hoping to find eventually- though she hadn't predicted it to be around this early, originally. They had information, they could track these things and lock them if they wanted to, as well as see where they led without having to risk going through. Everything Avery needed.
"England." was her answer to the blonde woman's question, purposely vague because she didn't particularly want to share any real details, simply put. Besides, she didn't know this woman's name, only what her job apparently entailed. In Avery's eyes, this was fair enough.
When the male came bursting in, Avery took a sharp step backwards towards the window, and grabbed the knife from her pocket. Now she was outnumbered, which was certainly not an ideal situation. Neither of the two in front of her looked that dangerous, but she could never be sure of anything when she was cornered like this. The window was rapidly becoming her best option for escape, especially now that she knew what she'd seen back there. There was probably more information, yes, but somehow Avery doubted she was going to be granted it.
She watched the woman, Abby, and the newly-arrived man carefully, tightening her hold on the weapon in her hand but not striking. Spilling human blood wasn't exactly something she wanted to be held responsible for, but if either of them were to try something, she'd be ready this way. | [atrb=background, i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee196/naetoru/averypostbg1.png][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true] | [atrb=background, i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee196/naetoru/averypostbg1.png]THIS IS A POST FOR ABBY, STANDING AT 243 WORDS! BENJASONSPARKES
[/center] Ben took great pleasure in unclipping his pistol from the holster attached to his belt and pointing the 3mm calibre weapon at the mystery girls head.
“Sorry lass, but it looks as if you’ve gone and brought a knife. To a gun fight…”
Ben fired a round into the ceiling.
”Becker!”
While he waited for Becker and his men to arrive, Ben faced the alarmed, yet intelligent-looking, girl in the eyes. She had some weird clothes, which was alien compared to Ben's grey, skin-tight top, fitted with a ringed-necklace and a leather jacket. His red skinny jeans and his un-laced combat boots.
“Put your hands on your head, and get on your knees.”
When she relented, Ben fired another shot into the air. He thought he saw Abby roll her eyes when he did this, but he couldn’t be sure.
”Drop the knife, and get on with it!”
Ben wisped at his smoking gun. |

Avery answered defiantly, refusing to give the woman any more information about herself. She wasn't going back there, and didn't see the need to tell these people anything about it, regardless of their demands.
The next thing she knew, the guy had pulled out a gun and started firing it into the ceiling, demanding that she listened to them and lowered to her knees. She stood her ground, wincing at the sound of the shots. They didn't bring back the fondest of her memories, and she tightened her grip around the knife in her hand. Anything to pull her back to now and away from her memories.
Things were getting out of hand, though. When she'd followed this Abby woman back into the cabin and started asking questions, the assumption had been that she'd be able to make a quick escape when she needed to do so, avoiding any chances of this. No such luck. "You won't shoot me." she said, testing her own nerve as well as the guy holding the gun. Whether or not her theory was true, she didn't know.
